Summary | 0016925: Rendering of drop shadows is slow
Description | This has been reported several times, see the tickets marked as duplicates of 0012513. The problem is that, even on strong machines, the simplest editing operations (selecting elements, dragging them, zooming the canvas, ...) become unbearably slow as soon as there are, say, 10 elements with drop shadow enabled. I can imagine that rewriting the drop shadow effect for better performance might be too big of a task, but maybe a decent band-aid would be to have a setting (off by default) to only render shadows in preview mode?
Steps To Reproduce | 1. In a new document, draw a rectangle. 2. Activate drop shadow on it. 3. Copy it and hit paste until your machine starts to chokes (that's about 20 times on my i7-12800H / 32 GB laptop). 4. Try to zoom or select one of the rectalgles and drag it. Every action will take many seconds to complete.
