Summary | 0012781: Off-screen canvas can't be recuperated
Description | At home I work with two screens - especially using Scribus. Now, travelling, I find myself opening Scribus to work on a new document, and the new document opens as if I was still connected to my other monitor, without appearing on my MacBook screen. I know it is there as, via App Exposé, I have the possibility of viewing the windows that have been opened in Scribus. All Mac tools (Preference > Displays > alt key > Detect Displays as well as alt+screen brightness) do not seem to help. No other Programme seems to give me this problem.
Steps To Reproduce | None, as it's opening a new or existing document the normal way. They simply do not appear on the screen. I can close them using my key shortcuts, but I miss a shortcut which would let me move the workspaces back on to my primary screen.
Additional Information | I updated Scribus from 1.4.3 to 1.4.4 in the hope that the problem would not persist, but it does. I set the preference settings to Default, the problem persists.

Ugly hack for now: In the command line type: vim ~/Library/Preferences/Scribus/scribus140.rc edit the WIDTH tag to something like 800 in: <MAINWINDOW WIDTH="1078" MAXIMIZED="0" HEIGHT="717" YPOS="92" XPOS="254"/> |
It didn't work, unfortunately. I edited the line you proposed, but the canvas is still off-screen in spite of even re-launching the application having changed the coding. Thank you for your suggestion. |
Worst case, just remove that file or rename it, as well as prefs140.xml. You'll only lose your preferences and history info.. That will remove anything Scribus does to store locations and Scribus will be back to where you started before first use. |
cbradney's suggestion is worst case scenario answer which will most likely solve this issue. Closing issue for now. |
Adrian adds: My solution was to edit the line in the file suggested but to change XPOS to a value of “0” (zero). This brought the window back into view. It is important to shut down Scribus before attempting to edit the .rc file otherwise it just overwrites the new value with the old. |
Maybe we can make some sort of bash/python script to automate this process |
jluc, maybe this could be part of the Scribus Admin toolbox ? |
