Summary | 0013587: when using facing pages one should not be able to remove single pages
Description | when using facing pages it should not be possible to remove an odd number of pages. exception: removing a set of pages at the end of the document. if one day we have real facing master pages (that are defined in pairs...) we could allow it, and just warn the user that this is not a sane thing to do... currently the users gets left MPs on the right side and right ones on the left and this is simply wrong... this is more than: we cannot move around your frames to respect non mirorred margins...

I agree there is an issue about this situation, but I think this proposition deals not well with too many causes for deleting one page only or an odd number of pages : sometime it is the best solution to get rid of a mess in the pages (and so, even if it requires to reapply some of the masterpages afterward). For these situations, it's usefull to keep the ability to delete only 1 page or an odd # of pages. But you are right when you say that "the users gets left MPs on the right side and right ones on the left and this is simply wrong". I think this is the real issue. As a consequence, better than "dont allow to delete an even # of pages in a facing pages document", would be : "when the user wants to delete an even # of pages in a facing pages document, display a warning and ask if the masterpages should be moved along with the pages content, or if the masterpages should stay in place". This last option should be default, because IMO and in my experience, it would avoid most of the masterpages re-layouting work in many cases. |

i was wondering if somebody would be suggesting a complex warning to be added instead of solving the issue... but i agree, the best way of getting rid of a mess, is to create a new mess! (ah, i forgt: avoiding a left MP to land on a right page should not be an option, not something we should ask the user about: it simply should not be possible!) |

ps.: btw, scripts and plugins should probably be allowed to remove single pages... if somebody takes care of the side effects for the specific case, she should be allowed to delete that stupid page! for known cases (like a specific magazine) it might be "easy" to take care of the shuffling around. but in the general case, i don't see how scribus -- in its current state -- can protect the user from being upset with the result after having removed a single page... so: if the deleting gets locked, this should be in the dialog, not on the page deleting function. |
