Summary | 0005454: Behavior of F10-shortcut
Description | When pressing F10, all windows within Scribus are hide. Thats a nice feature tu get a good overview of my workspace. But when pressing F10 again, *all* tool-windows of Scribus are opened. Thats a little bit confusing. It would be great if Scribus could remind which windows were opened and which not when the F10-key is pressed.
Steps To Reproduce | Press F10 two times

For the sake of consistency, F10/SHIFT+F10 should NOT be used to show/hide palettes. On Windows, F10 is a synonym for the ALT key (it accesses the menu bars); SHIFT+F10 is a synonym for the menu key (for context menus.) Setting this key to do something else is nonstandard, which may confuse users and cause problems with automation tools (e.g. macro recorders) and accessibility software. Reserving SHIFT+F10 for the context menu is also important for users who do not have a menu key (e.g. all Thinkpad laptops.) How about changing F10 and SHIFT+F10 to F12 and SHIFT+F12? These keys appear to be free. |
What about the TAB-key? I remember that in Photoshop the TAB-key hides all palettes ...? |
Interesting idea, but the TAB key is already used for tabs (in text frames), navigating around UI elements (e.g. in dialog boxes and floating palettes), and possibly in the future, jumping from item to item in a document. I think an F-key is the best way to go because the user can activate it regardless of what he is doing. Of these, F12 might be the most advisable, as it is at the end of the row, meaning less accidental keypresses--something that's important for such a commonly used feature. |
I'll agree with F12 ;-) |
I think this bug can be closed because in 1.3.4dev F10 works as expected ;-) |
Tested, fixed. Thanks. |
its now f12 |
