in 1.3.5+ have you tried to use the experimental pdf "native" embedding? (you need podofo installed for it to work...) |
No, I haven't done that because there's no podofo package for Ubuntu yet. Right now I'm trying to compile the source. If you have it installed, I'd suggest you try to typeset some text as I've done in my example, then upload the PDF for comparison. |
you should be able to get a recent enough podofo by adding scribus repositories to synaptics: http://www.scribus.net/?q=debian |

i have attached a test.pdf with your acts.pdf inluded into a .sla and exported as pdf using the experimental embedding functionality. |
Yours looks, scales up and prints nice. It also preserves font information, which mine does not. |
since render frames are meant to be updatetable, i think that they should be kept in frames... ... and since vector grafic embedded in frames can already be outputted as vectors (yes, only in an experimental way: but it will grow!), i propose to close this bug... ... and invite gastarbeiter to go through the link above and/or to drop by on irc:#scribus@freenode.net (there is even a webclient for it: http://www.scribus.net/irc |

I downloaded 1.3.6svn and podofo throught the Scribus repositories for Ubuntu, then tried the PDF export option ale suggested. It worked great for me, the fonts were embedded as vectors and font metadata was also preserved. My way of doing things through conversion to EPS works using GhostScript instead of PoDoFo. I don't know if there are any relative merits of the former. If not, the issue should be considered resolved and the bug report should be closed. Thanks to everyone and particularly ale for the insightful comments. |

>> My way of doing things through conversion to EPS works using GhostScript instead of PoDoFo. I don't know if there are any relative merits of the former. As Ale mentionned it , the method provided by the tutorial imply loosing updatability. Moreover that method outlines text so font infos are lost and will induce bigger file size. The method using PoDofo provides more flexibility : - render frames can still be updated - output vector as vector and text as text will all font infos preserved. - applies to all imported pdfs So PoDoFo method seems the way to go. |
