| Description | Most of the good productivity and graphics apps for Linux are GTK apps (Gimp, Inkscape, Evolution, Abiword, Totem, HelixPlayer), or more or less becoming GTK apps (OpenOffice, Mozilla Firebird). Better integration with GTK apps would help, a GTK port would be the way to go (Scribus 2.0)! | ||||

A GTK port is unlikely to happen in the near future by the team. That is not to say it won't happen (especially as GTK can now handle some of the KDE bits), just is not a priority. |

It was noted on the front page of the bug tracker that porting to GTK was *not* a reasonable request. Basically - a complete rewrite from scratch. Not a productive use of time for developers. There are also excellent end user applications in Qt like K3B, Qcad, Quanta to name three right away. Choice of toolkit does not ensure a better app - good coding does. Also, there is much user support for running Scribus on MacOSX, possible now via Fink - impossible under GTK and GTK on MacOSX is far away. |
