Summary | 0014814: Hyphenate only work once
Description | In a set of linked text frames, i do "Extra > Hyphenate" : it hyphanates the text Then i edit the text Then i re-ask "Extra > Hyphenate" : sometimes nothing happens, when obviously the new edited text requires new hyphens Sometimes, it works though
Steps To Reproduce | Create a set of linked text frames with text inside it Do "Extra > Hyphenate". See : it has hyphanated the text Edit the text and create new hyphanation needs Re-ask "Extra > Hyphenate" See : sometimes, nothing has happened

related to | 0015359 | confirmed | Hyphenation unpredictable behaviour (works or not) |

Unable to reproduce this. Please provide sample document. The fact that nothing change in some cases is expected as auto hyphenation affects layout only at line break boundaries. |
|
Sorry, not sure when that happens. Maybe i dont understand exactly scribus hypenation : what do you mean with "hyphenation affects layout only at line break boundaries" ? |
|
Extra > Hyphenation works by putting some flag on characters after which one can break word and put an hyphen. Extra > Hyphenation does not insert any character in the text. Its effect can only be seen after text layout, at place where it can have one, ie at line break boundaries. So performing hyphenation a second time will have a visual effect on layout only if a word previously located near a linear break boundary was not hyphenated. |
|
Regarding your explanation, it doesnt give me a clear enough picture of how hyphenation work... but in any case, the "if a word previously located near a linear break boundary was not hyphenated" condition is probably not 100% well computed since "some" words should be hyphenated sometimes when Extra > Hyphenation, but are not. NEW : I had the same issue once again and discovered that - doing Extra > Remove hyphanations - then Extra > Hyphenations does all the correct hyphanations. |
|
As a conclusion, a quick fix for this issue would be to launch Extra > Remove hyphens each time before doing Extra > Hyphenate. When display is not updated in between these 2 actions, user wouldnt mind it in anyway, and would appreciate to have whole text correctly hyphenated. |

probably bad analysis of issue. better focus on 0015359 |
