DescriptionI have this 4.7mb big pdf that i want to make some changes to, when i open it in scribus 1.5.3 and save it again its 1.0 - 2.1 gb big, i dont know what that difference depends on, sometimes its 1.0 and sometimes 2.1, nothing in between.
Steps To Reproduceopen this file (https://www.file-upload.net/download-12572308/784488.pdf.html) and import it into Scribus 1.5.3 - Appimage Version on solus gnome
dont click anything unnecessary and export it as pdf with standard settings.
-> file is now 2.1gb or 1.0gb big.
Tagsfile size, pdf export, pdf import, vectorised fonts

scribus is not a pdf editor... and pdf are not (really) meant to be edited...

this having been said, it still could be very interesting to have a look at the pdf and check what is the cause of the bloat and if scribus can do some simple improvements...

ok, i had a look at the pdf.

and my suppositions were confirmed.

scribus cannot load the text as text, but converts each glyph to a vector drawing.

indeed, removing all the text gives you a tiny pdf.

all i can say is:

- scribus is not the right tool for this specific task
- the issue cannot be solved until scribus will be able to read pdf text as text...

since there are other formats than pdf that better fit the task of bringing formatted text into scribus, i fear that importing text as such does not have a high priority for scribus.

in your case, what you could is to read the pdf with libreoffice and see if does a better job.
