Summary0016704: Character spacing has increased after updating 1.5.6, breaking almost all text frames
DescriptionI'm working on a document with many pages, currently over 250, with lots of text and image frames. My working version of scribus was 1.5.6 which I updated to 24651-svn after the fix provided in bug report 16518.
Today I updated to 1.5.8-svn and the character spacing in all text frames has increased, breaking the text flow in them and making many of them overflow. Downgrading to 1.5.7 didn't help, nor using the latest 24780-svn. Rolling back some library updates (icu, harfbuzz and qt5-base), I got 1.5.6.1 running again and my album looked as before. It's not related to freetype2 or the system DPI settings, as I tested these before downgrading.
If I change a text frame's "manual tracking" (advanced settings tab) to -0.50%, I almost get my initial spacing back - there are a few glitches here and there and perhaps an other value would be perfect, but haven't found it yet. Please, see the attached before/after screenshots of a random page exported to PDF.

Can this be fixed without resorting to the Style Manager/Paragraph Styles settings?

Got the exact same problem with a document in French and Windows 10.

When I open the file, it works fine with Scribus version 1.5.7 and 1.5.8svn up to scribus-1.5.8.svn-snapshot-20211030-x64.

After the 1.5.8svn 2021-10-30 that works great, I have that bug in both 1.5.8svn 2021-11-29 and 1.5.8svn 2021-12-19.

Screenshot as an example of the problem. 1st the scrambled document, 2nd the good one. Same file, same fonts. The first capture was opened in Scribus 1.5.8svn 2021-10-30 , the second in Scribus 1.5.8svn 2021-12-19.

1.5.x is a development branch and as a consequence we do not provide any guarantee of text layout stability between 1.5.x versions. If you need layout stability, you need to use Scribus 1.4.x.
