Summary0016727: Search dialog hides searched text
DescriptionIn the story editor, the search dialog is very wide and high and hides part of the story editor's window. It stands right in the middle of the story editor's window and can not be moved left or right or top or bottom so the text becomes visible : because moving it also moves the story editor and text keeps being hidden.

One has to close the search dialog so as to see the text editor and so as to be able to see the search result. But once the search dialog is closed, the found text isnt selected anymore when the search dialog is closed. It's possible to rely on the insertion carret because it has been moved close to the found text, but this is quite tricky because the insertion carret is very small and difficult to find.
+ So as to continue the search, one has to re-open the dialog and re-launch the search etc.

The process is overall uneasy.

It looks like it's a "feature" of Ubuntu :( I cannot reproduce this behavior in Fedora, Manjaro, Mint, OpenSuse Tumbleweed or ... Windows.

Ok. Same happens on Ubuntu 20.04.03 (LTS) and 21.04 (EOL)

I can't reproduce on Linux Mint 20.3.
"It stands right in the middle of the story editor's window and can not be moved...": This is a Gnome 3 function.
In Linux Mint this can be turned off.

More precisely : when i move the search result dialog, the story editor's window moves along with it, as if sticked, and it doesnt help.

@PeterBenedk Do you mean this can be changed through some gnome parameter or on the countrary its part of gnome 3 unchangeable core ?

Yes that's it !
I found other questions and answers about these kind of issues : https://askubuntu.com/questions/972276/how-do-i-move-child-windows-without-moving-or-minimizing-parent-in-gnome-3

I installed Gnome tweak tools, went to "Window" pane and could uncheck "Attach modal dialog" and i can move the search dialog now.

So not a Ubuntu feature but a Gnome feature ?

I close the issue.

Thanks !
