as far as i can tell, reinstalling (the same version of) scribus is almost never the solution to a problem.

can you give more details on what does not work?

does the dialog start?
does the preview work?
does the frame get created?
...?

Thank you for your speedy reply, Ale,
My wife and I installed the updated (excellent!) application within a day of each other, she on her Windows 11 laptop, I on my Windows 10. We wanted to put a QR code into the monthly magazine that my wife produces, so on my machine I showed her to click "Insert" and select "Barcode", before filling in the URL and other details. Great, but on her machine, clicking on "Insert" shows no option of barcode at all. Simply not there.
I had a nose around the Preferences and found in the Plug-ins section the first item for Barcode Generator, the same bits as on mine and the .dll file of the correct size is there.

Has Ghostscript been installed on the Windows 11 laptop ? The barcodes functionnality needs a separate installation of Ghostscript in order to work, it can be downloaded here:

Ah-ha! Preferences>External Tools showed gswin32c.exe as the interpreter but the program itself wasn't installed. Done that, and hey presto it works.
By the way, I recall that on installation of Scribus the advice is offeed not to use the 64 bit version, yet that's what my system has and it seems to be no problem.
Thank you both, for your speedy and effective help, as always.
