Summary | 0002670: Enhance colour wheel with dialog for cmyk and rgb colours
Description | This is an enhancent to an earlier feature request for using a start colour to get colour harmonies/contrasts from the colour wheel dialog. Currently, only HSV can be used to define a colour. It would be much more useful to start with CMYK or RGB.
Additional Information | Imagine, a customer requires the use of CMYK colour xyz as a basic colour (e.g. company colour), one could find easily find harmonising or contrasting colours by typing in the colour value and let scribus find the related colours.

Is it possible to integrate the "Edit > Colours" dialog and the colour wheel to some degree? I can think of inserting the basic colour value in the "Colours" dialog and then use its values in the colour wheel. |
Great work so far, Petr! Many thanks. Do you think it's possible to display the CMYk/RGB values of analog, complementary etc. colours somewhere? As it works now, one has to merge the colours into the documents colours, then go to Edit > Colours, open the Edit dialog and read the values. An option to rename the colours before adding them to the list would also be fine, just to keep the harmonising colours together in the list. Last, it'd be useful to display the basic colour under the input dialog. It makes it easier to remember which colour is the starting point. |
Christoph, I'm open to your suggestions ;) There is no problem to display HSV somewhere - but where? This dialog grows bigger more and more. Where it should be? Ad color name renaming - good point. It will be there. Ad basic color - you're right again ;) |
Petr, I didn't suggest to display HSV somewhere in the dialog. I intended to have the CMYK/RGB values of the harmonising colours shown. Example: I insert C: 55, M: 253, Y: 0, K: 0 and choose "Split Complementary". Now I want to know the CMYK/RGB values of the new colours in this harmony. As described above, the only way to find out is to add the colours to the colour list of the document and look them up in the Edit > Colour dialog. |

Subik, here's a mockup of the cw dialog that may express my thoughts more precisely. I made the ColourListBox a bit smaller, and added the colour value display below, for CMYK, RGB, and HSV. The display should show the values for the colour selected in the ColourListBox. I also tried an alternative to the current tabs in the upper right of the dialog, although I'm not sure if it's any better than the current one. Differences: - an HSV tab is added. Maybe it's possible to have HSV in the colour dialog as well, which seems especially important to keep consistency with GIMP, Krita and Inkscape. - the Document tab has been removed. Instead, there's a drop down list for document colours in each tab. - I'll also upload a mockup for a colour dialog in the Styles Manager. It may or may not render all this obsolete :( |

thanks, christoph_s. That's what I need as an inspiration. |
done for now imho. |
Thanks Subik, good work! Here are some minor nitpicks: Ordering of colour display: With monochromatic, and complementary colours, the base colour is displayed on top of the list; with analogous, split complementary, triadic and tetradic it's the first split etc. Colour display: the CMYK values in the display don't match the values in the input boxes if they're changed. |
ad "Ordering of colour display": it should work now. A little silly hacking of the Qt internals, but it works. ad "Colour display": can you write the steps to reproduce. Maybe I'm searching at the wrong place, but I cannot see it. |

>>d "Colour display": can you write the steps to reproduce. Maybe I'm searching at the wrong place, but I cannot see it. Try to change the cmyk value with spin boxes. The basic colour hanges, but the change isn't displayed in the "Result Colours" box. |
Christoph, can you test it again, please? |
