Summary | 0006643: Moving an item moves the page
Description | If I move an item on a page and the item leaves the page borders, the page display moves as if I was scrolling. It's close to impossible to place items with the mouse.

By design, this has been done so to be able to drag items between page... |
Just try to use it. It simply doesn't work. |
I've tried, works perfectly here |
Works perfectly here.. this is not a bug |
Ok, it works like tis now: If the selection is less than 200 pixels wide or high, Scribus tries to keep the whole selection visible during move, scrolling as necessary. Otherwise, Scribus just tries to keep the mouse pointer 20 pixels away from the border, scrolling as necessary. Both methods allow to drag one or more items to a place that is off-screen when the dragging starts. |
The pages are still moving too fast. Is it possible to slow down scrolling? |
Use a slower computer, eg a PowerBook G4? ;-) |
This is basically fixed, I remove the dependency to 1.3.5. Slowing it down would probably be possible, but I'd like to see a discussion of the pros and cons first. |
Removing dependency to 1.3.5 completely |
Responding to jghali's comment in 0006643:0018517 The design is malfunctioning then. For me when trying to drag items to page(s) above or below, scribus will jump back to where the image box originated. It not possible for me to move images This makes using Scribus pretty clunky (on OSX that is) |
No issue here... |
OK, so here are some refinements. One of the issue is that Scribus (at least on OSX) doesn't respect automatic scrolling when reaching the end of the scribus window to browse forward or backward several pages. On a laptop, one needs to 2 finger scroll while dragging a picture). Here's how I reproduce (on a laptop with trackpad on 10.9.5 r19958 Qt5.4) 1) start scribus with 4 new pages 2) Click 'Image Frame' (I) and add a random picture 3) Click on picture and move it to the next page while trying to scroll down to the page (2 finger scroll downwards wile holding and dragging) Screencast: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ryis3csq3m47fcc/Trackpad-move.mov?dl=0 |

Updated description |
No longer an issue in 1.4.x and 1.5.x as far as I'm concerned. |
Maybe this is a trackpad issue then ? |
Still persists on OSX 10.10.5 r20546 |
maybe I'll make a separate issue for osx then. |
