Summary | 0017161: Crash when opening PDF
Description | Originally submitted on the openSUSE bug tracker: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1191993
While opening an PDF with an orienteering map generated by OCAD Viewer, Scribus reports SEGV. Inkscape, and other software, open the map without problems
The crash can still be reproduced with recent SVN snapshots. Okular has no issue with the attached PDF. #0 SlaOutputDev::endTransparencyGroup(GfxState*) (this=0x55555c511770, state=0x55555b81b220) at /usr/src/debug/scribus-1.7.40~svn/scribus/plugins/import/pdf/slaoutput.cpp:1444 0000001 0x00007fffd53645a1 in Gfx::drawForm(Object*, Dict*, double const*, double const*, bool, bool, GfxColorSpace*, bool, bool, bool, Function*, GfxColor*) () at /lib64/libpoppler.so.133 0000002 0x00007fffd5364e74 in Gfx::doForm(Object*) () at /lib64/libpoppler.so.133 0000003 0x00007fffd53672fb in Gfx::opXObject(Object*, int) () at /lib64/libpoppler.so.133 0000004 0x00007fffd53539fa in Gfx::go(bool) () at /lib64/libpoppler.so.133 0000005 0x00007fffd53543e0 in Gfx::display(Object*, bool) () at /lib64/libpoppler.so.133 0000006 0x00007fffd53b6b3d in Page::displaySlice(OutputDev*, double, double, int, bool, bool, int, int, int, int, bool, bool (*)(void*), void*, bool (*)(Annot*, void*), void*, bool) () at /lib64/libpoppler.so.133 0000007 0x00007fffd53b6dd8 in Page::display(OutputDev*, double, double, int, bool, bool, bool, bool (*)(void*), void*, bool (*)(Annot*, void*), void*, bool) () at /lib64/libpoppler.so.133 0000008 0x00007fffd57038ec in PdfPlug::convert(QString const&) (this=this@entry=0x55555d160360, fn=...) at /usr/src/debug/scribus-1.7.40~svn/scribus/plugins/import/pdf/importpdf.cpp:656 0000009 0x00007fffd570575f in PdfPlug::import(QString const&, TransactionSettings const&, int, bool) (this=this@entry=0x55555d160360, fNameIn=..., trSettings=..., flags=flags@entry=1, showProgress=showProgress@entry=true) at /usr/src/debug/scribus-1.7.40~svn/scribus/plugins/import/pdf/importpdf.cpp:197 0000010 0x00007fffd5709e9d in ImportPdfPlugin::import(QString, int) (this=<optimized out>, fileName=..., flags=1) at /usr/src/debug/scribus-1.7.40~svn/scribus/plugins/import/pdf/importpdfplugin.cpp:232 0000011 0x00007fffd5700c68 in ImportPdfPlugin::loadFile(QString const&, FileFormat const&, int, int) (this=<optimized out>, fileName=<optimized out>, flags=<optimized out>) at /usr/src/debug/scribus-1.7.40~svn/scribus/plugins/import/pdf/importpdfplugin.cpp:150 0000012 0x0000555555a89965 in FileFormat::loadFile(QString const&, int, int) const (this=0x555557cde3f0, fileName=<optimized out>, flags=<optimized out>, index=<optimized out>) at /usr/src/debug/scribus-1.7.40~svn/scribus/loadsaveplugin.cpp:442 0000013 0x0000555555cec81f in ScribusMainWindow::loadDoc(QString const&) (this=0x555556d019b0, fileName=<optimized out>) at /usr/src/debug/scribus-1.7.40~svn/scribus/scribus.cpp:3419 0000014 0x0000555555d21d07 in ScribusCore::startGUI(bool, bool, bool, QString const&) (this=0x555556acf6d0, showSplash=<optimized out>, showFontInfo=<optimized out>, showProfileInfo=<optimized out>, newGuiLanguage=...) at /usr/src/debug/scribus-1.7.40~svn/scribus/scribuscore.cpp:131 0000015 0x0000555555d2211b in ScribusQApp::init() (this=0x7fffffffd1a0) at /usr/src/debug/scribus-1.7.40~svn/scribus/scribusapp.cpp:367

I confirm the crash on Scribus 1.5.9svn. When run from terminal "scribus obecnik-trail-2021-11.pdf", Scribus quits after a short while with "File obecnik-trail-2021-11.pdf does not exist, aborting." When launching Scribus from the terminal and opening the PDF from GUI, Scribus manages to display the preview in the dialog asking which pages should be imported, but the legend below the preview is displayed in a strange magenta (!?). I notice there are rare eastern accenctuated glyphs in the "author" part of this legend. It then hangs at 66% of import and the last lines of the terminal read : qt.glx: qglx_findConfig: Failed to finding matching FBConfig for QSurfaceFormat(version 2.0, options QFlags<QSurfaceFormat::FormatOption>(), depthBufferSize -1, redBufferSize 1, greenBufferSize 1, blueBufferSize 1, alphaBufferSize -1, stencilBufferSize -1, samples -1, swapBehavior QSurfaceFormat::SingleBuffer, swapInterval 1, colorSpace QSurfaceFormat::DefaultColorSpace, profile QSurfaceFormat::NoProfile) No XVisualInfo for format QSurfaceFormat(version 2.0, options QFlags<QSurfaceFormat::FormatOption>(), depthBufferSize -1, redBufferSize 1, greenBufferSize 1, blueBufferSize 1, alphaBufferSize -1, stencilBufferSize -1, samples -1, swapBehavior QSurfaceFormat::SingleBuffer, swapInterval 1, colorSpace QSurfaceFormat::DefaultColorSpace, profile QSurfaceFormat::NoProfile) Falling back to using screens root_visual. This file contains transparency groups objects which belongs to different PDF optional content groups. Scribus does not support grouping object belonging to different layers and probably never will. And I'm not sure how we can avoid that crash without triggering other issues. |

would it be possible to trigger a message stating what the problem is and then graciously fail and not open the pdf? |
